WHEN WE ARE OPERATING AT CAPACITY
AND ARE UNABLE TO TAKE THE ANIMAL YOU HAVE FOUND, OR YOUR PET THAT NEEDS TO
PLACED,
HERE ARE SOME SUGGESTIONS:
1 ) Contact other rescue groups. There are many breed specific groups out there. If you have access to the internet, simply search and lists will come up. Here are a few local groups:
Acadiana Humane Society,
Lafayette - (337) 893-0377
Lafayette Animal Aid,
Lafayette - (337) 869-1553
Animal Rescue Foundation, Lafayette
- (337) 332-4756
PAAW People Assisting Animal Welfare,
Youngsville - (337) 856-6628 or (337) 856-7621
2) If you have found an animal that you think is someone's pet, you can run an ad in the news paper. The majority of local papers, Daily Iberian and Quik Quarter are two that will RUN YOUR AD FOR FREE if you have found a pet.
3) Can you keep it while we post it on the internet for you?
We can use pictures and profiles on petfinder.com to try to place the animal you have. You will have to continue to house it until we can find someone willing to take it on.I.H.S. does not put animals to sleep in order to make room for more. We receive an overwhelming number of requests to take in animals, and we are only able to take in when space and funding is available. We can only take friendly, adoptable animals.
We are NON-PROFIT, and receive no government funding.
As an absolute last resort, contact your parish facilities. They do place pets that are adoptable for public viewing. Yes, their time is limited because the pet stray population is out of control. It’s better for them to have some chance, than to be abandoned "on the side of the road", which is against the law.
