Ms. Morgan LeFay Reunited with owner!

Video of the reunion can be seen on the CBS4 Miami website. (Popups need to be enabled in order to view the video correctly.)

William, a double amputee, had had to swim from his flooded house and hang on to a tree. It took three hours for him and the dog, Morgan La Faye, to climb from the waters onto the roof of his house. William was rescued from there, but was told to leave Morgan the dog behind. She was taken to the Jefferson Parish shelter, and we brought her to our relief center at Tylertown from there.

When we took her out of the truck that night, we listed her as a gray dog - it was only when she was shampooed the next morning that she turned out to be a beautiful apricot color.

Next, volunteer Randi Bildner took it upon herself to scan every rescue site to find Morgan's person. Then she saw an article in the Miami Sun Sentinel about William Morgan, and she figured: "That's the guy with the poodle!"

When William was well enough to greet her, two volunteers from Best Friends took her down to Miami, where her reunion with William was captured by a local TV station. (We took two poodles, in fact, as you can see in the photo. They looked quite similar, so we wanted to be sure we had the right one. Morgan La Faye went running straight up to William. And her travel pal will be in a good foster home until she, too, finds her family.)

The Story of Ms. Morgan LeFay

Just want you to be on the lookout for Ms. Morgan Lefay she is an anpricot standard poodle, stands approx 20" , 14-16 months old, no tags, not spayed but her collar is black with rhinestone inserts.

Last known whereabouts was rooftop at 2709 Benefit St.New Orleans, LA 70122. It was between Franklyn Ave & Almanaster St.

Ms. Lefay was with her owner a VA amputee named William Morgan when the water came crashing into the apartment it knocked him from his wheelchair & they couldn't make it out the door.

Mr. Morgan broke out a window and got sucked out of the house he then swam back in for Morgan who was doggie paddling at the ceiling.  Out the window the two went he was able to hoist her onto the roof only he could not help himself so he just hung on. When the US Coast Guard found him they took only him and at his request to take Morgan Lefay they told him they weren't in the dog business and motored off leaving her barking on the roof.

Please forward this and contact me anytime via email or my cell (561) 351-5962

I will pay for any expenses regarding her return.  Mr. Morgan is recovering at the VA hospital in Miami. Florida

My heartfelt thanks to all of you,

Sincerely,

Dianne Bauer

I'm sure there are many others out there just like this. It burdens our hearts to know so many desperate animals are out there just waiting for someone to save their lives. Thank you to everyone who is treading through the bacteria-ridden, snake-infested waters to save the lives of the ones who mean so much to so many.

-T. Landry
