Here are some Frequently Asked Questions to the Iberia Humane Society from the adoption community.
How
can I adopt a dog or cat?
You may come by our facility Thursday
thru Saturday 12:00 PM thru
4:00 PM. You may also
adopt at one of our frequent community adoption functions.
Please call us at (337) 365-1923 or click on the Calendar link in the
left pane, to find when these
functions are scheduled.
What
are the donations for adopting pets?
The
adoption fees for all or adoptable pets is $90.00.
What
is the health status of a pet adopted out by the Iberia
Humane Society?
The
animals we adopt out have been examined by a
veterinarian, and have the vaccinations and worming appropriate for the
age of the animal. All animals are spayed or
neutered before they can leave the shelter. If you are interested
in adopting a puppy or kitten, you can select one, sign an adoption
agreement and visit your adopted pet at the shelter until it is ready
to go home. Our
veterinarian determines the youngest age that a spay or neuter can
safely be performed, and that's when our pets are ready to leave the
shelter for their new homes. The
pet owner may return the pet to the Iberia Humane Society
for an exchange; however, all donations are final and there are no
refunds.
How
can I be sure that the animal I adopt is gentle?
The
staff at the Iberia Humane Society works with local veterinarians to
access the health and temperament of our pets for adoption. While in
the care of the Iberia Humane Society, the animals are
handled daily.
How
is the Iberia Humane Society funded?
The
Iberia Humane Society receives NO government funding.
Donations received upon adoption rarely cover the feeding
and medical care provided to the animals. We raise money to
provide our services from a number of sources:
Generous donations from the community;
Volunteers who participate in fund raising events;
An aluminum can recycling program
Sales of pet food, pet supplies, books and other items from this
Internet site. It is vitally important that when purchasing items on
the Internet from one of our partners that the partner's site is
accessed from our web site!
